Procedure
1. Hold a wood block next to your ear, and have someone hold a ringing cellphone next to the block. Note the sound of the telephone through the wood.
2. Hold an empty water bottle next to your ear. Hold the cellphone against the other side of the water bottle, and note the sound of the phone through the air in the bottle.
3. Repeat step 3 with the water bottle filled with water.
Analysis:
1. Compare and Contrast the sound of the cellphone when it traveled through the three different mediums.
Analysis
Medium (20 °C) | Speed of Sound Waves (m/s) |
---|---|
Dry Air | 343 |
Water | 1437 |
Wood | 3850 |
and solids are more elastic than the liquids and liquids are more elastic than gases.
so sound of cell phone travel faster in wood and you will hear louder and quicker sound in wood than the water filled than the emplty air filled bottle.
in case of any doubt and confusion please comment. thank you.
