Discuss three main information security challenges faced by organizations. Focus on prevention and troubleshooting.
For any organization, independent of the size, information security is the topmost priority. Some challenges are;
External Breaches: Probably the most harmful kind of information security danger is an external breach in the data stores of an enterprise. This is because of the inherent weakness of just about any company , regardless of its security fabric, in the security system. A poorly trained information management team is the main cause of this, which can still leave weak points and gaps despite establishing an apparently secure and data protection infr astructure. These gaps can be exploited by hackers, with employees also unintentionally accessing the gaps, and sending out sensitive data.
Potential Insider Threats: There are two types of internal data risks plaguing enterprises. The first is backed by malicious intent, and the second is purely unintentional and has the aforementioned human error element attached to it. In both case, internal data leaks and infrastructure damage is a major cause for concern for IT enterprises, mainly due to a lack of proper measures against this particular challenge.
IoT-centric Breaches: At the moment, networking paradise is the Internet of Things, with a huge number of smart devices linked over the central network. This poses, in terms of information protection, a significant weakness. Since devices need some form of data input to operate properly, this information is supplied and looped through the entire network. The data could be accessed by outside sources at any point in the loop, such as the vendor or other parties linked to the IoT network.
