The national slogan, Bhinekka Tunggal Ika, meaning Unity in Diversity, of Indonesia indeed serves as a framework for preservation, development and nationalisation of the country's diverse cultures. In Bali where ancient Hindu rituals are practiced, to Sumatra, where Islamic Shariah law is prevalent to the hunter gatheres of Mentawai tribe, the country shows remarkable traits of cultural diversity yet living with mutual respect and admiration for each other.
All these Indonesians with different cultures exemplify the national slogan of unity in diversity by living along with each other with tolerance and love for each other.
The country's population stands at around 255 millions is fourth largest in the world. The country has six large ethnic groups:-
The country has approximately 700 languages used in Indonesia, most of which are Austronesian languages. The official language of the country is the Indonesian language as indicated in the Constitution. As far as geography of the country is concerned, the country is a large archipelego with around 17,000 islands. The Muslim majority country has around 87% Muslims, more than 10% Christians, rest comprise Hindus and Budhist and others.
Overall, we can say the country is truly an example of Unity in Diversity.
