Following will be the determining factors while judging suitability of an individual for an international assignment
Personality - The person should be a people's person, have a apetite for challenges and diverse nature of work, should be willing to explore and live at new places, visit new cultures and open for new learning. He /she must have respect ad tolerance for diversity and should have a positive outlook of different cultures across the globe. He /she should be a quick learner and adpater with an ability to thrive in challenging situations. He /she should be street smart yet ethically upright person with unified focus and string value system.
Credentials - He /she should have adequate educational and functional qualififcation / experience and subject matter expertise to take on the new assignment. He /she should have a good knowledge of the culture of the place he /she is being sent to. Previous experience in same region is a big plus. International and multicultural exposure is desirable. Previous experience of working with multinational companies and in a multicultural and multiethnic work environment is desirable..
Personal situation - The person should not have many obligations and constraints back home such as family commitments or working spouse back home which would hinder his /her continuous stay or affect the stability in a new place. A younger person with least constraints will be the right person to be sent. However, the company must ensure that in selecting such person, it does not violate any statutory regulations resulting in discrimination of any kind or any other issues.
