A patient arrives at the clinic for his routine dialysis. He weighs in at 108.0 kg. After the patient’s last treatment, he weighed 105.6 kg. His estimated dry weight (EDW) is 105.5 kg. During the treatment, he will receive antibiotics intravenously with 150 mL of normal saline.
First, calculate the available weight (AW) in kilograms.
AW:
What volume of fluid in milliliters must be removed to equal the AW?
Assume all fluids have a density of 1.00 g/mL.1.00 g/mL.
volume:
The appropriate goal volume includes the volume of the AW and the volume of any intravenous fluids administered during treatment. Calculate the goal volume of fluid to be removed during this dialysis session in milliliters if the rinse back is 350 mL.350 mL.
goal:
The patient is supposed to consume no more than 32 oz32 oz of fluid each day. If his last dialysis session was two days ago, how many milliliters of fluid should he have consumed since his last dialysis appointment? Recall that 1 oz=29.574 mL.1 oz=29.574 mL.

fluid:
Patient's weight = 108 kg ( pre weight)
After last treatment, weight = 105.6 kg
Estimated dry weight = 105.5 kg
Patient receive antibiotics IV with 150 ml of saline
saline.
#Available weight = pre weight - estimated dry weight = 108 - 105.5
= 2.5 kgs
#Volume of fluid must be removed to equal the AW, density of all fluid = 1.00 g/ml
volume = 2.5 kg ( kg in ml)
1 kg = 1000ml
2.5 kg = 2500 ml
#Goal =
AW + additional fluid (150 ml of saline + 350 ml rinse back)
2.5 kg + 150 ml + 350 ml
= 2500 + 150 +350 ( convert 2.5 kg to ml i.e. 2500 ml)
= 3000 ml
#The patient is supposed to consume no more than 32 oz of fluid each day, if last session was 2 days ago, fluid consumed by the patient since his last dialysis appointment ,where 1 oz = 29.574 ml
= 32 oz of fluid in 1 day
so, in 2 days , 32 x 2 = 64 oz of fluid consumed,
fluid consumed by patient = 64 oz
in ml, 1 oz = 29.574 ml, so,
64 oz = 64 x 29.575
= 1892.8 ml or 1893 ml ( approx )
