2. Assume that you run a website. Your content ranks in position #3 in both organic and paid listings. There are 4,000 clicks every month on this Search Engine Results Page, and your organic and paid listings get a total of 25% of those clicks. If you get three organic clicks for every paid click, how many organic clicks do you receive in a month?

Expert Solution

When a search engine returns its search results, it gives you two types: organic and paid. Organic search results are the Web page listings that most closely match the user’s search query based on relevance. Also called “natural” search results, ranking high in the organic results is what SEO is all about.

You can calculate your organic click-through rate (or “SEO CTR”) by dividing organic clicks by organic impressions. For example, if your website showed up 1,000 times in the organic search results for the keyword phrase “women’s leather jackets” and searchers clicked on it 50 of those times, your organic CTR would be 5%.

Paid results are basically advertisements — the Web site owners have paid to have their Web pages display for certain keywords, so these listings show up when someone runs a search query containing those keywords.

Here there are 4000 clicks  and your organic and paid listings get a total of 25% of those clicks means total 1000 clicks.

From that the ratio for organic clicks to paid clicks is 3:1. If we solve the equation if there are 250 paid clicks then there are 750 organic clicks receive in every month
