Explain why water is the medium of life and why carbon is the chemical backbone to life

Solutions

Expert Solution

Water is a major chemical component of the earth’s surface.organisms body consist by 70% to 90% water Life originated, evolved, and thrives in the seas. our ecosystem also depend on water if water is not sufficent then we can not survive.main Properties of water is formation of hydrogen bond between hydrogen and oxygen so it can stablize our protein structure because between the secondery structure of protein hydrogen are presnt . The earliest life forms appeared in water; nearly all fish live exclusively in water, and there are many types of marine mammals, such as dolphins and whales. Some kinds of animals, such as amphibians, spend portions of their lives in water and portions on land. Plants such as kelp and algae grow in the water and are the basis for some underwater ecosystems.water is importent water importent for drinking agriculture etc.water is also good solvent for solute.carbon atoms form the “backbone” of almost all the important biological molecules floating around in our bodies (except water, ) Therefore, when we say life is “carbon based,” we mean that our skin, hair and cells are all made large amounts of carbon.Out of all the elements on the periodic table Carbon is a such a versatile element because it can form four covalent bonds.

Water: What is water, and why is water essential to life? List three properties of water and how each is useful to many species on earth. The paper should be 400- 500 words (~ 1 double-spaced, APA formatted page). Do not simply list the properties. Give an example of how each property of water make it better than other liquids for supporting biological systems. Refer to the attached document for the grading rubric
