A gas in a piston–cylinder assembly undergoes a compression
process for which the relation between pressure and volume is given
by pVn = constant. The initial volume
is 0.2 m3, the final volume is 0.04 m3, and
the final pressure is 2 bar.
For n = 1.3, determine the initial pressure, in bar, and
the work for the process, in kJ.
Solution : -
Here the gas is compressed adiabatically. The relation between volume and pressure is given by-
If be the initial pressure and volume respectively and be the final pressure and volume respectively the we can write
Work done in the process is given by
So the initial pressure 0.2468 bar and the work done is -10.21 kJ.
