In a one or two page reflection, explain how writing can be used to deepen understanding and work through complex ideas. give several specific examples of ways you have used writing as a means learning in school, work, or other areas of your life.
Writing is not just about filling pages but writing is one of the greatest strategies to get into someone's head and bring out what his or her thoughts are, on a sheet. According to (Langer and Applebee, 1987), any sort of writing is better for learning than no writing at all. People can use writing to deepen their understanding and work through complex ideas. There's also a scientific reason why writing helps in learning faster than learning without writing. The reason is that, when we write, the points of acupressure which are points for brain and situated in the fingertips are activated. But let's get onto what we were discussing.
for instance, take the example of the teacher. Think why teacher gives assignments? That's because it is impossible to hear everyone out while discussion and students also can not review what they have learned in a short span of time of discussion. But when given assignments they have ample time to think and rethink what the teacher taught them and then articulate thoughts. When the assignment is submitted teacher can review every assignment and know that how much students are through with what he taught and what are they still not clear with.
While working or in daily life when there are lot of tasks to do, if kept in mind what are the things left to do there are chances that you will forget half of the things but if a 'to-do-list' is prepared things get easier.
Also, when you have a complex idea in your head and you are getting confused that where should you start, making diagrams awaken your cognition and you get an insight that where you should start and how you should start. That's how writing helps to deepen understanding.
