Solution: The problem with database management systems is their capabilities of the RDBMSs to handle the evergrowing data in the field of Computer Science. This data is most commonly known as Big Data which is actually very large in size and cannot be handled using the traditional Database infrastructure. The reason behind this thing is that the data that is being produced each and every day is unstructured and hard to process and the current database systems can only process and store the data that is structured or in the tabular format. Data acquisition, data cleaning and the processing of this unstructured data is the most challenging problem these days. Big data applications such as Hadoop and Spark are being used these days just to tackle this problem of dealing with the unstructured data.
These frameworks allow engineers and scientists to perform meaningful operations over the data that is not in the tabular format. They can handle a large amount of data that is not in the proper format and can process it using sophisticated algorithms and help the data analysts and the data scientists to derive meaningful information from the same. Another problem with the current database systems is that they are not the cloud-based solution and most of them are on-premise software solutions and hence they are highly resource-intensive and not that robust solutions. They also lack the portability and require the systems with particular hardware specifications to run on. That is the reason they are not being preferred by the data analysts and the data scientist while working over the big data. This is the era of big data and a lot of data is produced that is almost millions of terabytes of the data, so the organizations require a solution that is open source, less resource-intensive, and can handle the unstructured or noon-tabular data. Since all these traits are missing in traditional RDBMS, that is the reason why they are shifting to the cloud-based, open-source data processing frameworks such as Hadoop and Spark.
