Think of someone you know who has successfully changed their health behavior (ex. becoming a vegetarian, eating less fat, stopped smoking, etc.). What health psychology concepts, based on the module readings or from your own research, contributed towards their success in changing their health behavior?
Answer -
I remember the time when I was in school one of my friend who was facing obesity problem and used to eat too much junk and oily food which was not good for health. He didn't realize that due to that his cholesterol level is getting high and he was facing stomach problems which includes acidity, constipation and heaviness in head. Due to this he was not able to concentrate in exams and too worried for academic performance. Then, I recommended him a doctor who advised him to quit junk and oily food.
Being a foodie person it was not easy for him to adopt healthy
diet structure in my daily routine.
Initially he found too much difficulties and challenges in quitting
oily and junk food. It was difficult for him to avoid tasty food,
however his cholesterol level was high then, he realized that he
need to quit unhealthy food.
As he decided that once in a week he would eat junk and oily food. That day he call as cheat out day. It means only one day he would eat any food and rest of 6 days of week he would eat healthy food like vegetables, fruits, juice, almonds, etc. He also stareted doing exercise and yoga daily and within 4 months he loose his excess weight and controlled his cholesterol leveel too. Now he is absolutely fir and fine and living a healthy and discipline life.
The health psychology concept for his success is that he understood that if he will not bring discipline in his life then he would have to face psychological as well as physical problem. He realized that life modification is necessary in order to life a happy and healthy life. Whatever life we live we need to live it happily and we can be happy only if we are healthy because it is most precious gift given by God.
