‘Management means getting things through others done’. A manager is a person who gets things through others done.

The moral values are the standards or rules relating to the behaviour that a manager must adhere to. The following are some basic morals or principles that a manger is expected to follow.

1. Honesty.

A manager should be honest and truthful in all his dealings. He should not intentionally mislead or deceit any of his subordinate by any unlawful means.

2. Integrity.

The managers should demonstrate personal integrity and the courage of to show that what they are doing is right. They must fight for their belief.

3. Promise keeping.

The managers must make reasonable effort to fulfill their promise and commitment.

4. Loyalty.

The managers must show loyalty to persons and institutions. They must use any information for their personal advantage. They must be free from undue influence. They must be loyal to their companies and colleagues.

5. Fairness.

The managers must be fair and just in all dealings. They must not use arbitrary powers for taking any advantage or to take undue advantage over the mistake of others. They must show a commitment for equal treatment of individuals. They must be open-minded. If they are wrong they must be willing to accept it.

6. Concern for others.

The managers must be caring, compassionate and kind towards the supporting staffs. Help others in accomplishing the business objectives. They must behave in such a manner which gives least harm and greatest positive good to others.

7. Respect for others.

The managers must possess respect for the dignity of human beings and give importance to privacy, rights and interest of others. They must treat all people with equal respect and dignity.

8. Law abiding.

The managers must abide by laws, rules and regulations of business activities.

9. Commitment of excellence.

The managers must show excellence in performing their duties and deliver constant endeavour to increase his efficiency in all areas of his activities.

10. Leadership.

The managers must be good leaders too. They must be positive ethical model to their subordinate.

11. Reputation.

The managers are expected to build and maintain good reputation for the company.

12. Accountability.

The managers are accountable for their decision and omission with their colleagues and company.

The managers expected to possess all this qualities in their position as a manager. The prime key of a business is kept with the managers. All business organisations depends on group action and joint effort. Thus an ethically qualified manager is required to lead and co-ordinate the working of the group.

In a business it is the manger who is a creative person who help in the optimum utilization of resources.

The manager alone can convert the disorganized resources of men, money, materials and machinery into a productive channel.

A well qualified manager is necessary for every business enterprises to plan, organise, direct and control the group efforts in the business organisation.

The modern business world is highly complex and the business firms earn profit only when it maximise output by minimizing cost.

Thus for a sound business world the role of managers is highly indispensable and diversified.
