Describe how personality in adulthood changes and also how it remains stable. According to Erikson, what is the major goal of adulthood? What types of experiences in adulthood would lead to that? According to the Big Five Factor of Personality, where do you think you fall on traits such as openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism? One of the major personality stereotypes in adulthood is the concept of the midlife crisis. What do researchers say about the midlife crisis?
Personality develops throughout life, but by older age, it may be distinct from personality in childhood”.The scientific data shows that personality traits are constant over an extended period. However, the personality traits can change across the lifespan. These changes can have impacts on a person's behavior and change the course of people's lives.
A mean-level development refers to an absolute shift in the individual's level of a personality traits over the time. Longitudinal research reveals that mean-level change happens. However, unusual traits lead to changes while many traits stay stable. There is an increment in the consistency of a trait as age advances.
Erikson's had given the stages of psychosocial evolution. Erik Erikson collaborated with Joan Erikson and explained this theory in the 20th century. This theory is the broad psychoanalytic theory which classifies the series of eight stages which the healthy developing individuals from infancy to older age should pass from.
Erikson gave the major goal of adulthood in the sixth stage. Intimacy versus isolation is the sixth stage of Erik Erikson's theory of psychosocial development. This stage takes place from 18 to 40 years which is started in young adulthood. During this period, the major disagreement centers on building private, loving relationships with other people.
It is often said that success leads to strong bonds while failure results in isolation. Adults who struggle with this stage of intimacy vs Isolation encounter poor passionate relationships. They can never able to share deep closeness with their companions or might can even strive to develop any sort of relationships at all. This situation plays the very difficult role because these people watch their associates and acquaintances falling in love, getting married, and starting their families. Some people might feel lonely if they have to strive to form close friendships with others.
According to the Big Five Factor of Personality, I think my personality traits fall on to the openness to experience. I feel myself to be closely associated with the experiences.
The people with this trends are considered being closed to experiences. Their personality is formal and traditional by their outlook and performance. They prefer simple routines to new experiences, and, have a conservative sphere of interests. Openness to experiences has considered assertive relationships with creativity, skill, and awareness.
The Midlife Crisis is a Normal Stage in Life. It looks at the midlife transmutation as a normal part of life. According to Jones theory, the midlife passage is a normal transition which leads from one stage to another stage of life. In midlife, people often reevaluate their preferences and aims.
In the words of psychologist Margie Lachman of Brandeis University in Massachusetts, the concept of mid-life is a myth. The notion of midlife crisis doesn't exist according to him.
He quotes
"It makes for good novels or good movies, but it is not accurate,".
He maintains that crises are induced by the unusual events. These events can happen at any age, such as an illness, career setback, or maybe the death of a friend or relative.
