1. A pendulum is created by tying one end of a 103 mm string to a hook and the other end to a bob of mass 31.2 g. If the pendulum is pulled back to 15° and then released, what is the period of the pendulum?
2. A pendulum is pulled back and allowed to oscillate freely. Its period is measured to be 0.72 s. What is the length of the pendulum’s string (use small angle approximation)?
3. An air track is set up at a 20° angle with the table. A car is placed at the top of the air track and let go. What is the instantaneous velocity of the car if it has traveled 30.0 cm in 0.531 s?
Multiple questions posted, so answering only the first question:
1. For a simple pendulum, time period is given by: 2 (l/g)1/2, where l is length and g is gravitational acceleration=9.8 m/s2
Here,l=103 mm = 0.103 m.
So,time period = 2*(0.103/9.8)1/2 = 0.644 seconds.
