Demographic transition theory explains patterns in population
growth. According to this theory, future population growth develops
through five stages. Every society in the world can be attributed
to anybof these stages.
- Stage 1 - Death rates and birth rates are high aswell as in a
balanced propotion in this stage. As a result, population growth is
very low in this stage. A pre- industrial society is a perfect
example for this stage.
- Stage 2 - Death rates drop drastically due to improvements in
many areas. There is a clear imbalance visible to death and birth
rate. As a result, population grows rapidly in this stage. A
developing country is a perfect example for this stage.
- Stage 3- Birth rates fall in this stage due to several
fertility factors. A developed country is a perfect example for
this stage. There is a slight decrease in population growth in this
stage.
- Stage 4- At this stage, both birth rate and death rates fall
due to various fertility factors. Developed countries like japan,
Itali are perfect example for this stage.
