Question 10 The last paragraph of the description mentions that one of the things measured was "net primary production." Knowing what you know about what plants do,
1.what process do you think drives this "production"
The process is photosynthesis where plants uses the light energy into the chemical energy plants show net primary productivity, which is how much carbon dioxide vegetation takes in during photosynthesis minus how much carbon dioxide the plants release during respiration.
2.what process do you think drives this "production
The reason why respiration is described as consuming is that the only real difference is that in one, the energy is sunlight and in the second, the energy is the ATP molecule. It's that reversal that makes many people think of photosynthesis and cellular respiration as being opposites. So they are not but, they are complementary to one another.
3.when thinking of the role respiration plays in the carbon cycle, would you use the term "sink" or "flow" ? Explain
We will use the term sink because long-term storage places are called “sinks”. When fossil fuels are burned, carbon that had been underground is sent into the air as carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas.
