You are interested in nurses' attitudes toward EBP. Which method do you think would work best to obtain this information: a questionnaire, a face-to-face interview, or a group interview? Defend your answer.
Evidence-Based Practice:
The collection, interpretation, and integration of valid research evidence, combined with clinical expertise and an understanding of patient and family values and preferences to inform clinical decision making.
Questionnaire:
- Set of questions designed to generate the data necessary to accomplish the objectives of the research project.
Face-to-face interview:
- An interview in which both parties are present physically in the same space during an interview.
Group interview:
- An interviewer asks questions but rather than asking them of a single interviewee, the interview is carried out with a group.
So, According to the options given, I would support Group interview as a method to get more information regarding Nurses attitude towards EBP.
- As a set of questions will be administered by the interviewer to the group where we can get multiple answers to one question i.e multiple opinions and views it can be strong or weak points about it.
- Cross questioning can be done to get the things clarrified.
- Many questions can arise from the group itself.
- It will create more people to come together for such discussion.
- Many innovative ideas can be brought through this so as to create more interest for the nurses to develop their positive attitude towards EBP.
- A group interview can be an interactive session rather than boredom like just administering questionnaire for a study group or like face to face interview in which each one will be given one question or limited question and we will receive just a handful of opinion.
- Through Group interview, we will get to know pros and cons of the topic very easily, so that cons list can be minimized by solving it which will impact positively for supporting nurses attitude towards EBP.
Just a drawback to group interview will be that:
A group will be difficult to handle so maintaining discipline, creating comfortable environment so that each ones view is properly heard should be taken in mind before conducting group interview.
So just by neglecting this single point, I support group interview.
