Rationing refers to controlled distribution of scarce resources to people who need them. This would mean that it may apply to food but not healthcare because medicine is one of the most important factors that would save life at a critical time. When one doesn’t have access to the life saving medicine, one would be at a greater risk. However, one of the most important benefits of rationing is that it would help the government distribute the existing resources equally to the disadvantaged groups. Secondly, it would help many who cannot access quality healthcare without the need to spend more money in this capitalist economy. Finally, it would help bridge the gap between the rich and poor in terms of accessing the resources in the society. One of the most important disadvantages is that rationing would prevent people who need the medicine most from getting it at the right time. Secondly, it would cost the government more money in the budget considering the money it has to spend. Finally, providing medicine through rationing may not address people from all races, religion and cultures thus would cause more inequality in the society.
