1)Describe the stages of disaster management
Disaster management is the managing and organising the resources and responsibilities during an emergency situation to reduce the impact of disaster.
Managing during a disaster can help removing people and property from an affected area by providing effective and timely rescue, protect the people and reducing trauma among people.
Disaster management can be taken up before, during and after disaster.There are pre-disaster management which includes, prevention, mitigation and preparedness and post-disaster management, includes response , recovery and reconstruction.
Pre-disaster management:-
Prevention and mitigation is the activities that undertaken to prevent disaster.
Preparedness helps to prevent the loss or damages due to disaster.For example, preparing civil administration,fire brigade, hospitals, police.
Post-disaster management:-
Response is the action taken to prevent mortality and morbidity.Activities include in response are search and rescue,triage, acute medical care,fire fighting, sheltering medical care, relocating medical records.
Recovery is the action taken to return to normal such as repairing buildings, replacing homes.
In reconstruction phase, construction material or location is finalized.
2)Describe the role and responsibilities of nurses in relation to disasters.
Nurses are in the forefront in disaster management. Nurses are prepare for disaster management by proper training.Depends on the location and type of disaster, nurses are able to manage these emergency situation effectively.
Triage is where nurses prioritise the injury during a disaster. The nurse should know the policies regarding disaster management in each location.Nurse manages with their knowledge and skills such as knowledge in personal protective equipment and equipment needed during a disaster.Nurse, also, act as a leader and manage and provides emotional support to the victims.
