Serious Persistent Mental Illness is a term referred to describe the various and complex symptoms of mental illness. Because, it is complex, it needs rigorous and continuous treatment and management. In SPMI, stressful events require intense therapeutic treatment, not only stressful events but because there is a continuous and fluctuating drop and rise in symptoms, it becomes difficult to treat because the amount of efforts that are needed by both the patient and the doctor is enormous. These effect their normal life such as restriction in lifestyle, inability to care for themselves, suffering relationships, less concentration, inability to complete deadlines etc. Medication might affect sometimes but mostly it's the right combination of medication and psychiatric therapy that does the work. Higly structured support system also contribute in minimising symptoms. All treatment require efforts, some require gigantic efforts and that's where SPMI comes in, because of such nature of SPMI, it becomes difficult to treat it.
