1. The fact there is a thin line that distinguishes abnormality versus normal behavior. The widespread symptoms of abnormality and the ability to distinguish them to abnormal behaviour makes it difficult to differentiate the mental health versus mental illness. As normal individuals may also shows the symptoms of abnormality, example every person feels high levels of stress and anxiety at some point of life, so this doesn't make each individual abonormal or mentally ill. Thus, it requires a great deal of expertise and caution to differentiate the normal from abnormal.
2. The Cognitive model and the Biopsychosocial model of abnormality seems most closely related to define mental illness. Cognitive model defines abnormality on the basis of various dysfunctions in mental abilities and processes. The Biopsychosocial model explains abnormality on the basis of genetics, cognitive and behavioral dysfunctions and socio-cultural backgrounds.
3. " DSM" stands for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders. DSM is handbook used by mental health care professionals for diagnosing various mental disoders.
