Discuss the need to document disciplinary actions and to provide the right of appeal
When a disciplinary action is taken, it is important for the manager to record all things involved in the decision such as offence, reason, decision taken, etc. Therefore, the documentation is maintained by the manager. It consists of the file of the memoranda, any evidences or papers used for the case handling, minutes of the meetings, etc. It is critical as it may be asked to justify the action and it is asked to manager usually. The right to appeal refers to an employee who can request a review on the disciplinary action taken by the manager with the higher level managers. For example, grievance procedure in case employee belongs to the union. Most of the time humane resource department get involved in the procedure of an appeal. At the time of an appeal, the higher level managers may reverse the penalty imposed on the employee by his managers. The manager’s decision can be reversed in case the disciplinary action which is imposed by a manager is failed to have all the facts.
