Discuss the need to document disciplinary actions and to provide the right of appeal
Sometime employees take their anger out by pursuing complaints against an employer. So, for being safe in that situation employer who is in the position to discipline a worker, need documentation of the disciplinary actions employer take in case of any conflict that could lead to a lawsuit.
Before acting as an employer put everything in written and keep an account of all the employee’s actions that have led up to your decision to discipline. Offer the employee to read the document and ask questions, add these questions and your answers in the document and have sign of employee on document to indicate that he has received a copy of the document. You can terminate if employee is not behaving adequately and this documentation support your action because everything is written on it. Documentation of disciplinary action can help employee to win a lawsuit. This is an important part of making a disciplinary action process transparent and fair.
Employees who believe they were not treated properly may appeal any disciplinary actions with human resource. The right to appeal refers that at any stage in the disciplinary action process, the employee may have the right to formally challenge a decision that has been made by human resource or supervisor, if they feel it was made wrongly and unjustified. This is also important part of making a disciplinary action process fair and transparent.
