The 3 conditions the glasses/goggles simulate in the experiment were?
While studying about the ocular conditions like astigmatism, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, optic neuritis, posterior vitreous detachment, and retinitis pigmentosa simulation glasses and goggles can be used. They will improve the understanding of the learner about the problem with mimicking of the real-life scenario.
1. Tunnel Vision: in tunnel vision, the visual field narrowing occurs in case of glaucoma, retinitis pigmentosa. To learn about what the simulation glasses or goggles, when worn, people will not be able to use their peripheral vision. They will only be able to see objects in the central region of the visual field.
2. Scotomas: occurs when damage to a particular area of the retina hinders the transmission of information from only that area of the visual field. The diseases that can cause scotomas are macular degeneration, optic neuritis, diabetic retinopathy. People may experience a dark spot or area in the visual field, corresponds location of the damaged retina.Glasses or goggles with blind spots are used to simulate the effects.
3. Blurred vision: It is mainly caused by cataracts and astigmatism. The glasses/ goggles with blurred effect can be used in the simulation.
4. Floaters: mainly occurs as apart from aging. The sudden occurrence of increased floaters are symptoms of vitreous detachment.
