When the intimate partner is physically or emotionally hurt in a married or unmarried relationship, it is known as intimate partner violence. One of the main reasons behind intimate partner violence is maintaining abusive relationships. It is the world's most popular forms of violence against women and the most underreported crime. Often the situation is more severe because of the constant violence that eventually causes the intimate partner to suffer, often without realizing the consequences. Aggressive actions can take various forms, including verbal bullying, threatening and verbal attacks on the partner. One of the key characteristics of this violence is the proportion of negative feelings in the life of the partner. A recent study of reported intimate partner violence showed that most women having suffered abuse in the form of physical violence, but almost two-thirds of them recorded psychological violence before experiencing physical violence. When a person in an intimate relationship uses any means to disregard or control the other person then such situations become unavoidable. Intimate partner violence affects millions of people and sometimes leads to physical , mental and even death. Media reports from celebrities show that even the most accomplished people can involve in this issue. Intimate partner violence leads to substance abuse, poverty, dependency on drugs and alcohol and other mental health issues. The victims of this problem were often more vulnerable to psychological abuse. Homicide is the most extreme consequences of intimate partner violence. Exposure to childhood abuse is more vulnerable for adult partner violence participation.
