Discuss the relationship between patriarchy and men’s physical violence against women.
Patriarchy is a system of society in which males are considered as masters of their household and all the female members and dependent males are required to remain under their dominance. In patriarchy males have the the final say in every matter of the house hold. Thus, males acquire dominant position both in the family and in the society. Female are considered as weak, inferior and incapable, hence, they are required to stay under the dominance of the males as their subjects.
When men feel challenged in any manner from their women counterparts in the family, men use physical violence as a means to suppress them or to teach them the lesson. Men feel they are legally entitled for such behaviors in a patriarchial society. They use physical violence to check any sort of disobedience from women in such societies and maintain their supremacy. Physical violence against women also denotes men's urge to hide their insufficiencies and to keep up their status quo against women. Thus, is patriarchy related to physical violence against women.
