In the (very common) case where you as a leader cannot affect the right organizational levers to meet your employee’s motivational drivers, how do you best convey that to your employee without looking like you’re hiding behind the organization’s policies?
Answer: It is a very common problem faced by the leaders when they find themselves unable to affect the organizational levers in order to meet their employees’ motivational drivers. In most of such cases the leaders hide themselves behind the organizational policies and point to the employees that cannot do anything in the situation as the policies of the company does not allow this. One of the best ways of doing this is by always inspiring them and motivating them without out pointing towards the organizational policies. A leader in such condition should never tell the people that he cannot do anything but attempt to convey that whatever support they have is enough to keep them motivated and can help them in achieving their goals. He should always point that there is no workplace where there are no limitations and hard work and co operation can achieve everything. A leader should therefore use all the personal resources and efforts to motivate the employees but he should always avoid blaming the organization and its policies. This will create a positive image of the leader and the employees will never think that he is hiding behind company’s policies.
