Control Charts for Variables vs. Charts for Attributes
HW: Comment the following statement! Sometimes, the quality control
engineer has a choice between variable control charts and attribute
control
charts.
Variable control charts and attribute control charts are different types of quality control charts used by quality control engineer of a product or project. He can use either of them depending on the results desired from the control chart. Attribute control chart allows summarising the quality of the product into various aspects assigned for the quality criteria. Based on these criteria they can simply accept or not accept the product quality. It does not consider the other factors that can affect the quality control such as time taken in the measurement or the devices used. It gives more easy measurement scale and thus is easy to be used by engineers. Variable control charts give a more sensitive and detailed picture of the quality issue. It identifies the quality problem before they reach the final stage to be unaccepted. It helps in saving from an increased number of scrap in the production process. Hence if the engineer uses any one of the charts for a product, he can still know the quality of the product is acceptable or not.
