An experimental study was conducted in order to compare the effectiveness of two drugs in the treatment of hypertension. 60 patients with similar hypertension conditions were included in the study. Researchers randomly assigned 30 hypertensive patients to each treatment group. The patients in group one received drug 1 while those in group two received drug 2. After the treatment, the patients in group one had an average blood pressure of 131.80 with a standard deviation of 2.50, and the patients in group two had an average blood pressure of 135.20 with a standard deviation of 4.50. Is there significant difference in the effectiveness of the two drugs?
What are the null and alternative hypotheses? State these using symbols (carefully define your symbols).
Calculate the test statistic.
What is the P-value for this test?
What do you conclude at the 0.05 level of significance?
Construct a 95% confidence interval for the difference between the two population means. Do you have the same conclusion as in Part 4) based on this confidence interval?
