People with disabilities are always considered vulnerable. I think it is not just considered as it is the truth or a fact you can say.
People with any kind of disability physical or mental, it is their weakness. Some people may be able to fight it & able to live a comparable normal life but still they have to make a lot more effort to live like that.
Vulnerability does not mean some will take advantage but they are at risk of getting hurt whether it is mentally or physically.
People making them feel like odd one out can hurt them at emotional level which we may think that, it does not happen but there are a lot of people who tend to behave like that.
I am a doctor & I have seen kids with autistic disorders. These kids who suffer mentally are so innocent & they are not in state to understand what is right or wrong. They can be easy target of kids of their own age or even adults. I have seen social workers who does not treat them properly not all of them but they cannot do anything about it because they are not exactly in that mental state. They cry if somebody hurt them but what else. They are not even able to live a life even close to normal.
My neighbor aunt had a paralytic attack in 2015, after that one side of her body like right arm, leg does not work properly. She can't even speak. She suffered a lot mentally because of that, she was not to accept herself like that and even when she used to meet people they somehow always reminded her what she lost.
I know her & I see her everyday. She has to work really hard to take every Single step. Still she do almost every work everyday with just one hand. Yes, she do it but its not about what she does its about how she does. It takes a lot of effort & almost triple time to do every single thing. She feels helpless about herself many times in one day.
One incident can change the whole life of the people, the way they used to live. I think it affects every thing in their lives. Personal life like going out with friends, in functions, professional life, behaviour of others towards them & everything.
Yes there are many programs which help people with physical disabilities and also provide support to the people with mental disability.
I think there should be some self help groups. A community where people with disabilities are able to meet other people with disabilities who lives in the same society. These self help groups can help them at mental level. Meeting people in these groups can provide an opportunity and a motivation to go out from the house. A place where they can feel normal & discuss their difficulties that other people may not be able to understand. But this is a micro level thing.
Government can take initiative in which they can specifically develop more jobs for the people who are mildly or have major physically disabilities but are in good mental state so that they can help themselves.
There Can be some small game tournaments which include special designed games for people with physical disability to participate. A platform to enjoy.
For mentally disable children's there should be schools in every state to help maximum possible kids.
I think they are very necessary things - to provide mental support & give them job that they can do so that they are able to help themselves.
