Jason is a 43-year-old Caucasian male who is in treatment for alcohol dependence and anxiety issues. He reports having negative thoughts about himself and he calls himself a perfectionist. Jason is a caucasian male , and his age is 43 years old. He is addicted to alcohol and have anxiety issues. he always thinks that he is perfectionist. Generally addiction to alcohol is considered as abrain disease that effects the body both physically and emotionally. The addicted person should face social and behavioral consequences in his daily life.
Alcohol addiction will have impact on each person on their way own, as it is a comples disease therefore treatment is highly individual. treatment differs from one person to the other as there are several forms of addiction therapy.
There are different therapies for alcohol addicted person like behavioral therapy, which helps the person to change the way he act. Negative actions stem from maladaptive thoughts. It is a self destruvtive behaviour which can be cured by behavioral therapy. Basically first the therapist should find out the reasons why the person is drinking and what triggers him to drink. the treatment can be given individually or in a group depending on the severity of the condition and the situation. Group therapy sessions teach them to practice healthy coping mechanism, managing stress. Behaviour therapy are of two types namely cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behaviour therapy.
Cognitive behavioural therapy is one of the popualr treatment for the alcohol addicted person because this is designed for preventing relapse and minimising problematic drinking. This therapy generally identifies the thoughts that are negative which is leading to self destruction and focuses on the connections between thoughts and actions.The aim is to change negative behaviour by modifying thought patterns. Individuals learn how to recignize potential triggers as well as to manage stress.
Dialectical behavioural therapy was initially created to treat personality disorder, because of its application today it is even used to treat alcohol addicted patients also. This focuses on helping individuals accept themselves for the instituting positive change. This focuses on mindfullness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation and didtress tolerance.
Contingency management has received modest research support for treatment of alcohol. This treatment of behaviour was tested on animals, is the reinforcement laerning. For example, behaviour that is rewarded will increase its frequency.Frequent monitering coupled with rewards incentives your future success.
Psychological treatment or to supplement cognitive behavioural therapy with a community support group are the ways to increase the potency of alcohol programme.
