4. We have called plate tectonics a scientific revolution. What other scientific revolutions do you know about? How is the plate tectonics revolution similar to, or different from, other revolutions, such as the Copernican revolution in astronomy? 5. What is the tectonic environment of the place where you live or attend school? Do you live near a plate margin? If so, what type is it? Or do you live in the middle of a plate? If so, which one?
The other scientific revolution Green revolution ,White revolution, Industrial revolution.
Earlier it is assumed that earth is the centre of solar systems. It was earlier supported by ptolemy and Aristotle. This model was known as geocentric model. But copernicus told not earth but the sun is the centre of solar system. This theory brought revolution in the area of astronomy.
Plate tectonics processes different from copernicus revolutionary ideas.
Plate tectonics is the movement of lithospheric plate that is 150km to 200km thick.
The movement of such large block lithosphere possible due to convention current going in asthenosphere.
5)As I am from India Odisha state keonjhar districts, it is located in singbhum shear zone. This region falls in the region of passive margin of Indian plate .This not near to plate margin.
Suppose you are living in Carlifornia then it falls near plate margin. This is strike slip type plate margin. This region is nearer to Pacific plate and North American plates. This type of strike slip fault is right lateral type. This type of plate boundaries is known as conservative plate boundaries. Here plate movement occurs parallel to each other ,they never converge or collide.
