What is the significance of the slope of an angular velocity (y) versus linear velocity (x) graph?

Solutions

Expert Solution

     Here we will get the relation between angular velocity and linear velocity as given below,

    =*r   where r is the radius of the circular path

so if we take in y axis and in x axis then slope is given by the equation,

   slope= y/x

           = /

           = 1/r

that is,

    / = 1/r       this graph is shown in the image given below (and also an explanation of getting the graph )

   significance of slope ;

     1. It says that as linear velocity tends to infinity the slope asymptotically goes to zero such that there is

         an angular velocity

    2. If we consider linear velocity as a constant then the graph says that tends to zero as radius 'r' tends            to infinity that is the slope tends to zero. That is the angular velocity can never be zero unless linear           velocity is zero
