What do you think is most challenging about collecting candid feedback on project successes and failures?
How can you ensure a productive lessons learned process to best impact future projects in a positive manner?
Does this change if your team will work together again in the future versus a "one and done" project?
The most challenging thing about collecting candid feedback on project successes and failures is the control of defensiveness by the feedback collectors. While collecting feedback, the collector should control their defensiveness regarding project, because sometimes the feedback provider get hesitate to give their honest feedback regarding project because of the nature of defensiveness, anger and justification of the feedback collector.
All the feedbacks and responses of the project and all the work regarding project should be reviewed with full focus, sometimes failure also gives productive lessons, all the reviewed and suggestions about projects will provide a productive lessons learned. While closing any project, conducting lesson learned and updating data archives is an important part of any project. It will have its best impact on the future projects in a positive manner. Every response and feedback on project should be taken in positive sense and keep learning consistently.
Yes, it change if the team will work together again in the future versus a "one and done" project because every project had its own importance and specialities, so team should be as per the need of the project and needed skills and competencies, all the feedbacks and responses of future project may be different or may be same.
