In your own words, write a couple paragraphs on the Federal court system (At least 500 words)
Federal Court is the same, for the most part, as State Court. They even handle speeding tickets on Federal Land like the Blue Ridge Parkway.
State Court handles what we think of as the usual things like murders, assaults, property crimes and a lot of civil cases such as divorces, land disputes with neighbors, etc.
Federal Court handles the same type of cases that occur on Federal Land…with the exception of divorces.
Just like State Court, Federal Court has trials with juries and prosecutors and defense lawyers.
Federal prosecutors often take State cases if there is a Federal interest. Like a felon in possession of a gun or a drug conspiracy that involved drugs taken over state lines. Federal jurisdiction covers every State in the USA and it's Territories.
The Federal prosecutors and State prosecutors often work together to resolve cases. Many Federal prosecutors started out as State prosecutors.
The same goes for Public Defenders. There are State Public Defenders and Federal Public Defenders.
So to put it simply, Federal Court is a lot like State Court but with a much larger jurisdiction.
