Being reliable in common parlance suggest of a thing in which we can be sure of or depend on. The same attributes of reliability apply in research methodology too. Reliability in research means that the results can be tested more than once by using the same tool. Being reliable suggests that the result of the research is found to be reliable even when it is tested more than a single time.

The role of reliability in research is far important and it forms one of the fundamentals of doing research. The fundamental element of research which is accuracy in the findings is exactly what reliability in research gives. Without reliability and testability, majority of the research will not contribute much. Reliability has different types which are Test-retest reliability, Parallel forms reliability, Inter- rated reliability, and internal consistency reliability. These different types of reliability are employed in specific circumstances according to the research. By using these different methods of testing, reliability can be improved.

Reliability has proven to be useful in psychological research. The findings from the research can now be implicated because of their reliability. Increasingly, the examination of correlation coefficient has been employed to use reliability. Positive correlation usually is an indication of reliability. More methods and employment of reliability in research have also contributed to the field of medicine, science and technology and many more.
