Assume you're evaluating yourself after graduation or what you consider the finish line. Set 3-5 goals for yourself after graduation and how the concepts you’ve learned during your readings apply (below). How will/have these goals prepared you?
What is the actual plan of action you are taking to reach those goals beyond this course? Consider what you've learned thus far in this course. Discuss the following concepts (not all inclusive if not applicable, but NOT limited to either):
• Project and quality management skills
• Impact of technology
• Revenue
• Documentation
• Collaboration
• Ego-centric and/or empathetic thinking
• Job market relative to MIS
• Business processes
• Competitive Strategies
• Ethics
All concepts mentioned might not apply to your goals, however consider what you have learned thus far and apply to your planned goals. Be thorough, but concise in making your points. Support those points with your learnings. Think outside what you are simply familiar with. Life comes with changes and a variety of experiences. Structure your thoughts not only what you want and have already been accustomed to, but the possibilities that you've dreamed* of or at least heard of.
Goals: There are short term goals and long term goals. In order to achieve long term goal we need to have step wise short time goals. After completing my graduation I will set up following short term goals:
1- Need to find a good sales/marketing job with a reputed company.
2- Need to reach to middle level management by 5 years.
3- Need to reach high level management in next 10 years.
Long term Goal:
1- I will setup my own business and will contribute to the society and my family to maximum extent.
So let’s start with short term goals:
Get a Good job:
In order to get a good job I need to list down the reputed organisation and need to have a lot of information about those companies.
I need to make projects for different companies where I can show how I can contribute as an employee to the growth of that particular company. For that I need to use my project making skills and quality management skills to show them what exactly quality work I can do as an employee which in future will contribute to the company’s success.
Reach to Middle level Management:
Once I get a job I need to understand the culture of that organisation so that I can easily stabilize myself in that company by adapting their work culture. In order to excel I will require more updated information about updated technologies which will impact my performance in a positive way and I can stand ahead of my colleagues.
The performance should not be only qualitative but it should be quantitative as well, so I need to generate more revenue for the company in comparison to rest of my colleagues.
In due course I need to maintain good relationship with my clients by giving them quality services time to time so that I have good reputation in the market outside the company.
Reach Top level management
Once I have started doing well in my current job and the same is being recognised by the company as well I need to work more carefully on documentation. As once you grow up in the system your job role also widens where one has to make various reports like sales reports, sales projection (Monthly, quarterly and annually). We need to make various plan and strategies to meet the sales targets like territory distribution, product distribution etc.
There could be a case that company does not have bigger roles available with themselves so it is very important to have a clear idea of Job Market this could be within the same industry or related industries. This can be done by talking with our clients regarding the companies from which they are buying the same products or other products because it is always easier to work with the known customers at higher level. So as and when required I can switch the job to get a position in top level if not provided within the same company.
Final Objective/Long term goal
Starting own business/venture
After having a good experience of 15 years at different level with different organisation and having experience of dealing with different set of customers and colleagues it feels quite comfortable to start your own venture.
In order to start a business there will always be requirement of funds and for that we need to look for collaboration. I can collaborate with someone who is already in business and looking for further growth or with someone who has money to invest but lacking the ideas.
Being an entrepreneur is more challenging than being an employee because there is more risk involved. So it becomes very necessary to keep a close watch on what our competitors are doing so we need to watch competitive strategy very carefully. It is very important to know their pricing, packaging and positioning of product in order to compete with them.
Once we are in business it is very important that we contribute to the society in a positive way and make it more that ethical. We can form some kind of NGO or donate a fixed per cent of our revenue for any noble cause.
