If we focus on three of the world’s major civilizations—the Western, the Indian, and the Chinese—we can use a cheat sheet of generalizations for comparative purposes. The West sees reality rolled outwards, India sees reality rolled out inwards, and China sees it rolled out both ways. Since reality is rolled out outwards for the Westerner, desire is good (because without it you don’t get the good out there). For the Indian, rolled out reality is illusory and desire is bad because it drags you out into illusion. For the Chinese, moderate your desire because you don’t want it to make you unbalanced. THE 3 MAJOR CIVILIZATIONS
1. THE WESTERN:
2. THE INDIAN
3. THE CHINESE
THE WESTERN: It sees reality rolled outwards which means that it is good to have desires. Because to achieve or get something you need to have a desire of that particular thing.
For eg, i want to buy an ipad , so that is my desire if i do not desire of getting an ipad i will surely not work in order to get that. so the western civilization says that if you want something you need to have a strong desire for that thing and only then you can achieve it.
THE INDIAN: It sees reality rolled inwards which means that having desire is bad. It says that if a person has a desire for something , it will result into illusion ie an image created by the imagination and it is not real. So the indian civilization thinks that a desire is going to take a person beyind the reality and he will start taking dreams of that particular thing, so we should not desire rather work.
For eg, i want to become an army officer but i have a very small height which is never going to help me in persuing my dream, so here if i desire to become an army officer all i get is an imagination because it can never happen. And ultimately it will result in the persons loss.
THE CHINESE: It sees reality rolled out inwards as well as outwards because they feel that the excessive desire can lead to mental damage and having no desire at all can also lead to the distortion.
For eg, I am earning $1000 per month , my desire should be according to the salary or else i will be in debt for sure. So i can desire of having an ipad out of it , it is good to have a desire of buying an ipad but if i desire to have a lamborghini out of $1000, it is going to hit me hard and cause a mental damage as well.
