During the Cold War, United States foreign policy was dominated by the idea of containing the Soviet Union and the expansion of communism worldwide. Define our strategy of containment and then identify and explain at least three specific incidents (Do not include the Cuban Missile Crisis as one of the three) of how the United States acted (or reacted to a crisis) within the strategy of containment to check the advance of Soviet communism during the Cold War.
After the WW2, the geography and politics of the world had been changed, the United States and USSR were two declared superpowers, started to expand their ideology and political will so they get stuck in Cold War.
USA was leading democratic ideology and capitalism while USSR was leading Communism and socialism, both ideologies were completely different so Superpowers used their strategic and political power to influence the world.
Here are a few enormous events which created a great impact on the contemporary world.
1- Formation of NATO: European countries and America formed a powerful alliance to control the power of USSR, this event destroyed trust between superpowers.
2- Vietnam and Korean War: American influence in Korea created concrete mistrust between two nations and the war ended with the declared result but America create strong opposition against USSR which made the situation more disputed.
3- Afghan War: During the USSR invasion of Afghanistan, America supported some regional groups that were called Mujahidin, these groups used American weapons, financial support to contain USSR. With the help of Pakistan, USA contains USSR and this war created the roots of USSR disintegration.
In my opinion, The Soviet strategy was not able to control situations because the capital and advanced technologies helped the USA to contain Soviet ideology and influence. But this time we can see the new beginning of the Cold War in the Middle East.
