The Penang 2nd Bridge at Bayan Lepas has a main span of length 1.28 km, one of the longest in the world. A steel wire with similar length and a cross-sectional area of 4.00x 10-6 m2 is laid on the bridge deck with its ends attached to the towers of the bridge. The temperature of the wire at that hot afternoon is 55.0°C.
(a) When the temperature drops to 10.0°C, calculate the tension in the wire.
(c) Explain what will happen to answer in part (a) if the Penang 2nd Bridge is twice as long.
