Over the years, one of the main focuses of the Humanities has been the "struggles" of many of the historical figures and all that they had to go through to become the giants that they were destined to be. Some of these figures suffered from mental illness, depression, and drug addiction. They had to overcome a number of obstacles. Overall, they suffered as they created the art that we have come to know and love. Some of those figures include, Vincent van Gogh, Emily Dickinson, Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf, Ray Charles, and Elvis Presley. In addition to struggling with their personal demons, some of these artists were only recognized posthumously (after their deaths).
Many would argue that today's artists, entertainers, and writers have to face few struggles, if any. Today's entertainers became overnight sensations because of vehicles like YouTube and shows like The Voice and American Idol. Instead of spending years as a "starving artist," one million views on YouTube can catapult a virtual unknown person into the spotlight. Once a video goes viral on the Internet, life for the featured "star" of that video will forever be changed.
In light of today's technology, is there such a thing as a "struggle" anymore? Explain your reasoning by giving examples.
Is there " struggles" for artists entertainers and writers in today's technology world.?:
' Struggle ' literally means to strive or to labour in difficulty . There were many wonderful artists, writers and entertainers, who got their deserved recognition lately in their life , some times after their death. Even many scientists and physicists underwent death penalty or imprisonment ( due to their discoveries ) because of ignorance of authority or religious leaders. For example: Galileo Galilei. The Scenario completely changed, today due to the rise of Modern Scientific technology many artists, scientists and entertainers etc are getting recognition easily through social medias with some of their viral videos or products.
Struggles still existing, for the real life heroes even though many of them coming to spotlight of the world's recognition through social medias. Today's world is for those , who know how to get recognition from others and how to do marketing and how to advertise their products well in the social media market. Somebody, those who are not interested in the publicity or those introverts, who don't want to get spoiled their peace and privacy with social media may not do publicity through such type of medias.
Robert Williams, the athlete, Jenna Fischer ( Emma award nominee, US), Ranu Mondal ( Indian street singer, until 50 years of age nobody recgnized her. Due to life struggles she couldn't come out in life and she struggled with her Mental weekness. Somebody's mobile turned to her one day and done a shooting of her singing. Then only world came to know the wonderful voice that was hidden.) , Saji Thomas( from Kerala, India, ), who is deaf and mute, made an aircraft. In his forties he got recognized by people, even by the time he is seeking a job.
Today's world is for those who know how to stand in the midst of the competitive world, and do self boosting in social media with their different works, inventions and talents. Few are still struggling in their bondages of daily livelihood earning, they don't have time to market their talents and products, some of the women, who are greatly talented in drawing, singing and dancing are in the cage of ' house wife' status particularly in Asian countries, they are not allowed to show their talents in front of public, only to show to their families or some time even no permission for that also. Even some very talented actors are there in local film industries, but due to tight competition or failing to please the others makes them unrecognised or consciously avoiding from the first liners. Hope all these talented people will come out of their existing struggles to world's spot light.
