In our body Cholesterol is found in every cell and without it our body would not function properly. Body uses cholesterol in many wyas.

1.maintaining the stiffness, stability and maintenance of cell structure

  1. Hormone synthesis : Cholesterol stored in the adrenal glands, ovaries and the testes is converted to steroid hormones. Testosterone, Estrogen, Progesterone, Cortisol, Aldosterone….etc
  1. Synthesis of neuro transmitters :   for propagation of nerve impulses through neurons.

4.Synthesis of various enzymes : these are necessary for metabolism .

5.Synthesis of Vitamin D : for calcium metabolism in blood ,bones and teeth.

6.Synthesis of Bile salts and Bile pigments : Digestion of fats and lipids.

7.Precursor for synthesis of several biomolecules necessary for vital functions of the cells.

8.Nervous tissue : Myalin sheeth of neurons are made of cholesterol.

9.Storage and metabolism of fat soluble vitamins and other fatty substances.
