Business and ethic issue of minimum wage
1. A contemporary business also owes its workers an ethical, and in some cases legal, duty to be a responsible employer. The definition of this duty in a business context involves maintaining a secure environment, reasonably compensating workers and treating them with a sense of integrity and equality while preserving at least a minimum of their privacy. Managers should be responsible leaders, who represent all workers as role models and mentors. A manager's role, perhaps the most important one, is to have a cause for people to return to work tomorrow.
Usually, employers wanted to get as many days of work from their employees as possible before a mass layoff or closure, thinking that workers could decrease productivity or search for other employment faster if the business were clear and honest about its situation. In other words, we can hardly call it ethical leadership when businesses place their own desires and needs ahead of the workforce.
There are times when complete disclosure can not be justified. When a corporation needs to buy or be purchased by another corporation in the middle of sensitive negotiations, such knowledge must be kept secret before a transaction has been concluded (or discontinued). That may be mandated by regulatory statutes and criminal law. Similarly, any internal performance problems relating to staff or workplace criminal investigations will usually be kept secret within the management ranks. Harassment and sexism are perhaps the main ethical problems facing today's company owners. If harassment or prejudice arise in the workplace, the outcome may be both financially and reputationally devastating for your company.
The broad nature of social media has made online activity by employees a factor in their employment status. This is difficult to inquire about the ethics of dismissing or punishing workers for their online posts. Normally, however, the line is drawn when the online conduct of an employee is deemed disloyal to its employer. This means that a Facebook post complaining about work is not punishable on its own but can be punishable if if it does something to reduce business.
2. Minimum wage is characterized as the total amount of remuneration that employers are legally obliged to pay to employees for the work done within a given time, which can not be decreased by collective agreement or individual contract. The key aim of the law is to ensure employers are not abusing their employees, thereby shielding employees from unduly low pay. Minimum wage aims to provide a minimum living wage for a large number of people working.
Minimum wage increase triggers work losses. They base their assertions on conventional labor market assumptions which predict a higher minimum wage would lead to job loss among low-skilled workers. Many researchers have debunked this misconception that it may have such an impact on some sectors, and only on young people, not on the many millions of workers. Labor and salaries are the cornerstones of the labor market. Minimum wage law, however, falls within the fiscal, political, and ethical realms.
