how to calculate furnace oil consumption in boiler

how to calculate furnace oil consumption in boiler

Solutions

Expert Solution

  • Furnance oil consumption in boiler can be calculated by knowing the boiler specification, and steam production from boiler.
  • Then the required heat for the produced steam is calculated based on the efficiency of the boiler, and calorific value of fuel (i.e amount of heat produced from 1 kg of fuel), that can calculate the required fuel.

EXAMPLE:

Bi =B (1- L)/100

Bi= calcuation of fuel consumption, kg/h

B=fuel consumption, kg/hr

L=boiler mechanical incomplete combustion loss%

B=100Q/(Qdw*)

Q=effective heat utilization of boiler, KJ/h

Qdw= Low calorific value of fuel,KJ/kg

   =boiler thermal efficiency,%

Q =D (lbh-lgs-rW/100) + Dw (lbs-lgs)

Q = Heat utilized by boiler effectively KJ/h

D= effective heat utilization of boiler, Kg/h or Boiler rated evaporation Kg/h

lbh= saturated steam enthalpy of the boiler under rated pressure, KJ/kg

lgs=boiler feed enthalpy, KJ/kg

r=saturated vapor vaporization latent heat, KJ/kg

W= steam humidity, %

Dw = Boiler discharge, Kg/h

lbs= saturated vapor enthalpy of boiler under rated pressure, kJ/kg

For superheated steam boilers

Q = D(lgr-lgs)+ Dw (lbs-lbs)

lgr= enthalpy of superheated steam, KJ/kg

Methane at 25°C is burned in a boiler furnace with 10.0% excess air. The air enters the burner at a temperature of 100°C. Ninety percent of the methane fed is consumed; the product gas is analyzed and found to contain 10.0 mol CO2 per 1 mol of CO. The exhaust gases exit the furnace at 400°C. Calculate the rate of heat transferred from the furnace, given that a molar flow rate of 100 mol/s CH4 is fed to the furnace.

At steady-state, fuel oil is supplied at 0.01 gal/min to an oil furnace for home heating. (Note: 1 gal = 3.785*10^-3 m^3). The fuel oil density is 870 kg/m^3. Combustion air at 65°F and 1 atm enters the furnace with a volumetric flow rate of 15.2 ft^3/min. Determine the mass flow rate of combustion product gases flowing up the chimney flue. Also, determine the average velocity of the flue gas if the gas temperature is 225°F and the flue diameter...

In an oil fired boiler the fuel had an analysis by mass: carbon 84%, Hydrogen 11%, Sulphur 3%, and Oxygen 2%, remained incombustible. The analysis of dry gas flue gas by volume gave: combined CO2 9.7%, CO 0.5%, O2 2.95%, and N2 86.85%, there being no SO3. Calculate per kg of fuel: 1- Mass of air supplied. 2- Percentage excess air supplied. 3- Mass of flue gas formed. 4- Mass of water vapor formed.

An oil company is considering upgrading a reaction furnace in one of its natural gas plants. The company’s engineers have outsourced two alternative systems. The upgrades will be more energy efficient and will save the company money in fuel – since burner technology has improved greatly since the original plant was built. However, the new upgrade will have additional annual operating, maintenance and utility costs. Each of the alternatives (Furnace A and Furnace B) has a 10 year service life...
