Elderly people are the guide and mentor of the future geneartion. It is our responsibility to add happiness, peace and sense of being loved and cared for.

Nursing homes provides residencial care to the elder people and the  disabled who have no one to care for them . They provide various services like nursing care, supervision , meal services,assisting with the daily activities , rehabilitation, physical, speech an occupation therapy. It is the duty of the society and community as a whole to provide the aged with a comfortable lifestyle , filled with love , belongingness,care, respect, understand and make them feel like they are home.

Most of the nursing homes have a strict routine, rules and regulation that must be followed by the residence for example, meal time, sleeping time, bathing time, naptime and so on. The elderly are not left with much decision to make . elderly feel like they dt habe freedom, liberty and happiness. Therefore policies must be develop inorder to mininimize institutionalism

some of the policies that can be instituted in the nursing homes are

  • Training the staff working in the nursing home to focus on patient centered care: care should be given base upon the patient needs. complete and holistic care, physical, mental, social and spiriual care to be given.
  • Desigining of facilities in such a way that it feels like home: most of the nursing homes are buildin a way which doent not give the homely feeling to the resident. designing a nursing home that create a sense of belonginess and homely is important.
  • Promotion of verstile workers. the heath worker and caretakers mus be train in many aspects to be able to fullfill th eneeds of the residecent of care or activities
  • Involving the residence in desicion making. ang providing suggestion base on there needs and desire: involving the residence in contribution to decision making creates a sense of importants and enhance their self esteem

These policies are not commonly use because of the difficulty in implementing them, the need of more trained staff and the cost.
