In statistics, what specific steps would you have taken to obtain a representative sample?
To conduct research on any population we want to make sure that our sample is true representative of the population i.e. we want that sample which can best reflect all the characteristics of the population.
1) First we should be clear about our aim of the study i.e. why we are studying that population .A clear and complete aim is very important .
2)We should have a definite sampling frame i.e. list of all the households or the units to be studied .
3)We should have a precise sample size and determination of sample size is the most important task in sampling because a wrong sample size might not be the true representative of the population.
4)Sample should be such that it represents the every segment of the population without any bias.
5)Surveyors need to do everything they can to ensure that survey data is collected, stored, and analyzed in a proper manner.
6)There should be no selection bias while choosing a sample otherwise results will be biased and sample will not be true representative.
7) There should be no convenience bias i.e. sometimes surveyor take easy route for Sampling rather than a thorough study.
8)The units should be selected in a very precisely manner i.e. only those units should be selected which are reliable for our study.
