Expert Solution

Critical paths are basically defined by Total float. Just to reiterate, Total float means the amount of time that an activity can be delayed from its early start date without delaying the project finish date.Well if we want to see critical path in Primavera P6, we need to check the Gantt chart. Those activities which are having zero float will be shown in red colour in the Gantt chart, so by looking at Gantt chart in P6 we can actually understand which activities are on critical paths. Secondly we can select columns - critical and longest paths and add in the project activity layout to understand which are the critical paths. Thirdly, We can also select filter to choose critical path.

Leveling tab is used for ensuring that required resources are made available to start and continue the activities in any project vis-a vis the plan. Only when it is understood that the resource demand's can be met, it is scheduled for start else that particular activity may be delayed until resource availability issues are addressed.

How to add/delete columns on the activities Page --------------

We need to use customised view to add or delete columns in primavera P6. The customised view is available in box icon towards the right top corner. In the customised activity view we can see two columns - one is Available columns and another is selected columns. Just we need to select the column that we want from available column and move it into selected columns category and press ok, similary to remove column from selected column we need to select it and move it back to available columns.

What is Gantt chart ----Grantt chart is basically a horizontal bar chart. It provides a graphical illustration of nothing but schedule which finally helps a project manager to plan, coordinate and track specific tasks in a project. There are two axes. On the vertical axes activities are mentioned and on the horizontal axes time period is mentioned.

Where can we view Gantt chart in Primavera P6 ---------

To open the Basic Gantt View, we need to click on the ‘Switch to Basic View’ link at the top of the Activities page. But is also important to understand that either of the Classic View or the Basic View can be set as the default setting

Since Botanical garden case is not described in the question - levelling or the resource allocation is not being answered, but it can be taken up if the case is available.
