What are 10 of the recruitment strategies used by U.S. companies? Why are open and public advertisements seen as the most effective recruitment strategies? Why would such strategies not work in more collectivist cultures?

Solutions

Expert Solution

The 10 recruitment strategies used by US companies are

1)Catchy Job advertisements- Job advertisement is the most common form of recruitment strategy and if an advertisement stands out, then more talents will apply.

2)Employee Referrels- Internal and external referrals are also used where an employee can refer to a person they know.

3)Social Media - Social media can also be used to find out potential candidates and reach out to them

4)Job sites- Use of job sites is one of the common strategies of recruitment.

5)Reach out to colleges - Companies often reach out to top colleges with great talents during seminars or festivals.

6)Create a good environment - Creating a good corporate open culture often attracts lots of talents.

7)Work-life balance- providing and advertising a good work-life balance also attracts lots of talents.

8)Enhancing Brand Image- People often want to associate themselves with brands. Therefore this is one of the strategies.

9)Diverse environment - Creating a diverse environment and promoting the same is one of the strategies. Inclusive organizations attract more talents.

10)Alumni Networks - Using networks to find out and recruit potential candidates.

Open and public advertisement is still the most effective way of recruitment since they have the maximum reach and maximum attention of the public. It also gives the recruiter a larger, more diverse pool of candidates to choose from. The recruiter can compare and contrast each applicant and choose the best candidates among them.

Such strategies will not work in collectivist countries since their culture is a group culture and not individualistic cultures. Collectivist culture put more emphasis on relationships and social contacts. This creates an atmosphere against individual actions. Hence, individualistic strategies will not be appreciated in a collectivist culture.
