• Genetics do play a role in the development of anxiety disorders.Vulnerability along with environmental factors can trigger the onet of anxiety disorders.Research has shown that first degree relatives(parents,siblings,your own child) of an individual having anxiety disorder are more likely to develop it.
• Even women are twice more prone to developing anxiety disorders.Generalized anxiety disorder is quite common in women,with condition typically beginning around 30 years,but many are diagnosed with it in early adulthood as well.
• The brain structure amygdala which is involved in regulating our moods and emotions is also linked with anxiety.Patients diagnosed with GAD have shown elevated amygala activity while processing negative emotions like fear.This increased activity researchers have believed might be an influence on the inaccurate interprtations of social behaviour for people with anxiety disorders.
• People who suffer from GAD tend to inaccurately perceive the social cues as threatening when in reality it is not.
• Increased gray matter in certain locations in the brain has also been linked to anxiey disorders.One brain area which has shown increased volume of gray matter is right putamen which has found to been positively correlated with childhood maltreatment.
• The greater the reporting of childhood maltreatment by the patient,the greater would the volume of gray matter.
