What type of organizational structure should Sony adopt? Why? (Short Essay)
Sony should adopt a matrix organizational structure. Sony being a multinational organization having presence in a lot of countries across the globe, there are different functions inside the organization such as marketing, sales, finance, operations etc and all these functions are interconnected with each other and also with the individual projects that are being implemented across the globe in Sony. In order to successfully execute a project in Sony, the different teams are formulated which are headed by the project manager and the team has different departments within such as marketing, sales, finance etc and the different department heads report to the project manager and the team reports to the different department heads. All such different projects which run across multiple locations in Sony are ultimately comprised of various employees which are part of different functions such as marketing, sales finance, operations etc and have cross reporting to their respective functional or departmental managers as well. Hence Sony must adopt matirx organizational structure since it is a very large organization and having a simple functional organizational structure is not recommended in Sony due to less efficiency and decrease in employee productivity.
